TusPark Newcastle has welcomed its first members from China through TusStar, the largest incubator network in China and part of the TUS Innovation Network.
The company, Starlabs Bioscience, is a Healthtech Startup specialising in AI and neurological feedback. Its technology was developed by one of its co-founders, Dr Yongki Kim, a pioneer in this field.
“We spun out Dr Kim’s research into several products because we wanted to be one of the first in China to popularize this technology,” CEO Aik Fong Png said. Their latest product is an EEG hardware module which detects brain signals between 0.1 to 100 HZ.
Starlabs Bioscience started in TusStar Ningbo, in Zhejiang province, less than an hour away from Shanghai. It was also in Ningbo that Kim met fellow co-founder Dongbiao Xu, then a graduate in behavioural psychology.
Starlabs continued its growth in Asia, with training centres in Beijing and Tianjin. It has also built its South East Asian home in TusStar’s new presence in Malaysia.
“TusStar has been a great base for us, for finding talents, sharing resources and expanding our team. The TUS Innovation Ecosystem has made setting up in a completely new part of the world extremely easy,” Mr Png said.
As part of the TUS Innovation Ecoystem, and a member of the TusStar network of incubator bases, TusPark Newcastle supports startups and entrepreneurs coming to the UK with company formation, intellectual property registration, legal, banking, accounting and business support. It is the ideal first-stop for Chinese startups keen to explore the UK market.
TusPark Newcastle is also part of the Eagle Labs network, the largest network of UK incubators, powered by Barclays bank. As a direct collaboration between Barclays and TUS UK, the organization is known as TusPark Newcastle Eagle Lab.
Andrew Dixon from Barclays, and ecosystem manager of the Newcastle Eagle Lab said: “The Eagle Labs are a national network of business support, and are designed to help local startups to grow and scale-up nationally and internationally. As the largest ecosystem for technology and the sciences in China of nearly 200 bases, TusPark is the best partner for us to work with in helping to send UK startups to China, and also receive Chinese businesses, big or small, through our physical base in Newcastle.”
TusPark Newcastle Eagle Lab is fully equipped to help international industries and investors expand its international footprint and explore the UK market, through Newcastle.
And for companies like Starlabs, it means finding and employing local talent in North East England to support this growth, as well as bringing its own new innovations to the UK.
